Culture-sensitive counseling service for migrant families

Modeled after the project “Baby im Blick” (Baby in Focus), the Herbstmühle Psychological Counseling Center in Wipperfürth offers a counseling service for migration families, especially for Turkish-speaking families. Since migration processes are often associated with severe stress, which can lead to developmental disorders or even mental illness in children and adolescents, it is important to offer support at an early stage. A crucial element here is language. Family counseling cannot succeed without joint communication possibilities on the basis of knowledge of cultural peculiarities. If counseling cannot be provided in the native language, specially trained interpreters are involved.

Culture-sensitive assistance has been offered since May 2015.
