The project Lego® Robotik of the Education Office of the district Oberbergischer Kreis is intended to arouse children's interest in the topic of robotics at an early stage and in a sustainable manner.
The project focuses on the key qualifications for the 21st century in a professional world that is becoming increasingly digitalized. Children in primary and support schools are introduced to digitization at an early stage in a cautious and playful manner. They discover the programming and can freely explore other possible uses of the robots. In particular, critical thinking and creativity are supported, as well as teamwork and self-confidence through independent problem solving.
The Hans Hermann Voss Foundation supports the use of LEGO® Robotik in primary and support schools of the district Oberbergischer Kreis. These schools can apply for the equipment at the office of the zdi-center investMINT Oberberg. For teachers at the selected schools, participation in a basic workshop is included in the program.

The concept of listening clubs was initiated by the Listening Foundation. The listening clubs promote a more conscious perception of the importance of listening in the school context, which leads to more peace and quiet, a more varied use of methods, a more attentive atmosphere, and increased media competence. Children, pedagogical specialists and teachers develop a basic open attitude to listen to each other better. In a specially equipped room at a school, the listening club, the children find equipment such as headphones, playback devices and sound boxes. Listening games, sound puzzles and sounds or radio plays produced by the children themselves are designed to inspire joy in listening.
In the Oberberg district in the 2021/22 school year, with the support of the Education Office of the Oberberg district and the Hans Hermann Voss Foundation, a corresponding pilot project was launched at the community elementary school Oberwiehl (GGS Oberwiehl) and the special school of the Oberberg district in Wiehl with the focus on language. In the joint all-day program of the two schools, there is now a listening club in which several children can work simultaneously on different listening tasks according to their ability and interests.
Project DEFY (Design Education for Yourself) is underway in India, along with other places, and works to create spaces in which people can pursue their own further education. The “Initiative Neue Bildung e.V.” association from Germany works with Project DEFY. The core idea of the project is the construction of so-called “nooks”, which act both as alternative schools as well as cost-efficient centers for independent learning that local (village) communities help create and organize themselves. The aim of the nooks is to ensure that, in areas where children and young people cannot make it to the classroom, the educational environment comes to them. At the same time, nooks are intended to be safe spaces in which people and social groups affected by poverty, social exclusion or an unstable environment can find a place of learning. Supported by a mentor, learners can create their own learning projects in the nooks. The equipment includes laptops, internet, technology, electronics and tools, as well as various, often recycled materials and resources. The Nooks are open to lifelong learning for people of all ages. With a start-up funding, the Hans Hermann Voss Foundation has been supporting the construction of a new nook in the village of Katchipedu near Chennai, southern India.
The mentoring program of the “Generation Ausbildung” supports young people looking for apprenticeships on their journey from their final year of school to end of their first year of training. Mentors with experience in the field support their mentees with 1:1 meetings and also volunteer as role models and motivators to help their mentees successfully kick start their careers.
After a short period of initial support for the mentoring program in the Oberbergischer Kreis by the Hans Hermann Voss Foundation, the Oberbergischer Kreis location was also accepted for permanent support by the Cologne Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
Students’ personal development is a special focus at the secondary school “Konrad-Adenauer-Hauptschule” in Wipperfürth, with the aim of preparing all students as best as possible for professional and private life after leaving school. Programs in technology, music and theater in the project groups and in compulsory elective courses are therefore also of great importance at the school. The Hans Hermann Voss Foundation funded the acquisition of a pool of rental instruments for the music department. Pupils who do not have an instrument of their own can borrow an instrument from school and practice also at home to further develop their skills.
The Wipperfürth youth art school, "Kunstbahnhof", run by the community foundation "Wir Wipperfürther" moved to new premises at Lüdenscheider Straße 21 in autumn 2021. The Hans Hermann Voss Foundation provided funding for the new equipment for the Kunstbahnhof. The premises and equipment were redesigned to be as accessible as possible for everbody. To expand the services available, in addition to the studio, dance and theater rooms, a workshop area was set up where students can also work with wood or metal, for example.
