Ideas kit "Playing through the day"

Ideas kit "Playing through the day"

The ideas kit is a suitcase designed both for educators and parents that is full of game suggestions for improving the German language skills of preschool children. The suitcase is intended for use in day-care centers and paediatric practices and is specifically intended to help parents, who themselves have difficulties with the German language, to support their children in learning German.
The idea to expand the play options for integrating language development and education in families into everyday life originated in 2019 in the Education Agency (Bildungsbüro) of the district Oberbergischer Kreis and follows a holistic approach. In a corresponding survey by the district Oberbergischer Kreis, 65% of primary schools and 63% of kindergarten in the district Oberbergischer Kreis reported an urgent need for action to improve children's German language skills. The work materials in the ideas kit are generally easy to understand and offer a comprehensive group of topics for discussions with parents.
The ideas kit was developed in the Education Agency and was initially used as a prototype in four day-care centers, fetching positive feedback. The Hans Hermann Voss Foundation supported the production of 200 ideas kits, which were distributed throughout the Oberbergischer Kreis district by summer 2021. The distribution of the ideas kit was linked to the participation of one person per day-care center in a half-day symposium.
